Ready for a NO SEW class? You do not need a sewing machine for this class. We are hosting a dual Collage class. You can pick to do a Portrait Collage or a Laura Heine Collage pattern. Gitty is a certified instructor for both collage techniques.
Laura Heine's collage quilts have received world-wide attention! Gitty will show you the step by step process to master these addicting patterns. Pick from any of the Laura Heine's patterns as the technique is very similar from pattern to pattern (ACME has an assortment on hand or can order in as requested).

Instructor: | Brigitte (Gitty) Okamoto |
Instructor Bio: | Brigitte Okamoto Brigitte Okamoto was born in Omaha, Nebraska and moved to Montana in 1974. She graduated from high school in 1980 and attended Montana State University for 3 years, majoring in Home Economics / Consumer Services. She married her first husband in 1983 and they moved to Denver before she was able to complete her degree. They have two sons, Derek and Bryan. In 1992 the family moved to Kennewick, WA. and it was there her neighbor talked her into going to a quilting class. She fell in love with quilting!! The next 17 years were spent raising her sons which left little time for quilting. In September 2009, her husband of 27 years told her he wanted a divorce and found herself 48 years old, no college degree, and no work experience. She decided to return to college and finish her degree. In order to graduate, she took 41 credits over the next two semesters and graduated from Washington State University in May 2010. The day after graduation she moved back to Kalispell, Montana where her parents still lived. Three months later she met her current husband, and they married six months later in February 2011. She hadn't quilted in over six years and really missed it, so she and her mom started taking classes together. She also decided she wanted a Business Degree, and started attending Flathead Valley Community College late 2010 (graduating in 2017 with a Small Business degree). It was there she took several Business Planning classes where she had to form a mock quilting business. After the professor saw the business plan and financial statements, he strongly suggested she actually go start the business and in December 2016 Brigitte and Brian formed Montana Custom Quilts. In 2017 she took a class from Laura Heine, and was invited to attend Laura's first Instructor Certification class June 2018. Her husband really enjoyed doing collage as well, and he became a Certified Instructor in 2019. In 2019 Brigitte put over 29,000 miles on her truck traveling and teaching collage in WA, MT, ID, SD and NE. Brigitte wanted something else to add to her teaching skills so she started paper piecing and taking classes with Judy Niemeyer. When COVID 19 hit in 2020, she took advantage of the down time and started the one year certification process, and has made 9 Judy Niemeyer quilts in 9 months. Brigitte lives in Kalispell, MT with her husband Brian, six chickens and they are awaiting the arrival of their new Miniature Australian Shepherd puppy in September. She is still traveling and teaching McKenna Ryan applique, Laura Heine collage, portrait collage and Judy Niemeyer paper piecing. She enjoys gardening, hunting, fishing, hiking, does long-arm quilting for customers as well as donating her time quilting tops for Quilts For Cops. |
